P. Christian Scheley
P. Christian Scheley, who joined Clapp, Moroney, Vucinich, Beeman & Scheley directly out of law school in 1986 and has been a partner since 1992, maintains an active civil litigation defense practice. He is an AV rated trial attorney. Mr. Scheley is also a member of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel (“FDCC”) and has been named a Northern California Super Lawyer. Mr. Scheley has also been elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA).
Mr. Scheley' civil litigation practice emphasizes catastrophic personal injury, professional liability, products liability and employment law litigation. Additionally, Mr. Scheley has litigated numerous business and contract disputes. A respected trial lawyer, he has represented clients throughout Northern California in both Federal and State Court before judges, juries and arbitrators and mediators.
Additionally, Mr. Scheley is a respected insurance law expert. His insurance practice focuses on providing advice and critical analysis of insurance issues for many of the nation's largest insurance carriers. Well-versed in all types of coverage and coverage issues, Mr. Scheley has provided thorough expert opinions on hundreds of coverage issues arising out of the most complex of fact patterns. He has been lead counsel in hundreds of declaratory relief actions, and has obtained consistently superior results in summary motion resolution of insurance disputes. Mr. Scheley's litigation practice includes the successful defense of carriers in bad faith, contract and tort actions and in providing cost-effective representation in contribution actions. He has particular expertise representing insurance industry professionals, including brokers, managing agents, and claims administrators in complex bad faith litigation and professional liability disputes.
A frequent guest speaker on civil litigation and insurance law matters, Mr. Scheley has been a speaker before the Association of Defense Counsel and has presented seminars on a wide variety of issues from civil litigation to unfair claims practices to recent developments in coverage and bad faith and the intricacies of proper reservations of rights.
Mr. Scheley received his B.A. with high honors from the University of California, Berkeley in 1983, and his J.D. with distinction from McGeorge School of Law in 1986. Mr. Scheley was named a member of the Order of the Coif due to his high attainments in the study of the law. He is admitted to practice in California and before the United States Courts of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit and U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Mr. Scheley is a member of the Defense Research Institute Association, the DRI Employment Committee, the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California, National Retail and Restaurant Defense Association,the San Francisco, San Mateo and Santa Clara County Bar Associations, the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel, the Council on Litigation Management. Additionally, Mr. Scheley has been named one of Northern California's Super Lawyers.
